SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team concluded play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Southwest Regional Championship in San Diego. On Sunday, the Rainbow Wahine delivered a strong showing in the consolation draws with four total victories across singles and doubles action.

The ‘Bows set the tone in singles play, securing three straight-set wins out of five matches played. UH’s Makeilah Nepomuceno led the charge with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over LMU’s Ilana Toro. Tennielle Madis maintained the momentum by sweeping Cal Poly’s Tia Bonita Jakupovic 6-3, 6-3, and teammate Stefi Aludo added another convincing win over Cal Poly’s Kaia Celin Bostrom Jorgensen, 6-4, 6-2. Hawai’i’s remaining singles battles saw Grete Gull drop a hard-fought match by just one break in both sets, 6-4, 6-4 to Arizona’s Sophia Chistodoulou, while Hannah Galindo pushed Grand Canyon’s Gala Arangeio in the second set before falling 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles action, Hawai’i earned a split across two matches. The UH duo of Madis and Gull picked up a win for the Rainbow Wahine, defeating UC Santa Barbara’s Katarina Vayser and Shachf Lieberman, 6-4. In the other doubles pairing, Nepomuceno and Galindo were topped by Arizona’s Martyna Ostrzygalo and Sara Mienska in a 6-2 contest.

The Rainbow Wahine will head to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the Mountain West Fall Tennis Individual Championships which will be hosted by UNLV. The tourney begins on Tuesday, Oct. 20 with women’s playin matches for both singles and doubles. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Main Draw for both singles and doubles will commence.
