The arson unit is investigating a blaze that broke out in the early morning hours of Satuday and left a Barrhaven home with significant damage.
Fire crews were called to the 60 block of Moonbeam Street in the Jockvale community. Crews arrived at 2:43 a.m. after multiple callers reported thick, black smoke coming from the house.
When they arrived, officials could see the blaze emanating from the first floor. Declaring a working fire, crews brought a hose inside the building quickly, while another team searched for people.
At 3:13 a.m., firefighters were evacuated from the home after no one was found, due to the “dangerous conditions,” the release reads.
At 4:35 a.m., the fire was under control, but a truck stayed at the scene to monitor for any flare ups.
Ottawa police say that no one was injured in the incident and that the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause with its arson unit.
The home suffered substantial damage, the police release notes.
Officials are asking anyone with information to come forward.
