The Ottawa Senators signed head coach Travis Green to a multi-year contract extension through the end of the 2030-31 season, president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios announced Monday.

Assistants Nolan Baumgartner, Ben Sexton and Mike Yeo, along with goaltending coach Justin Peters, also received multi-year extensions.

Green was hired May 7, 2024, as the franchise’s 14th head coach on a four-year deal that originally ran through 2027-28. The new agreement comes early in Year 3 of that contract and keeps him under club control for several seasons beyond the prior end date.

“When I was in the search to identify our head coach two years ago, it was clear to me that Travis had the qualities to move our team forward,” Staios said in the club release. “I have watched him implement systems and structures that have reinforced my belief in his coaching abilities. We share the same vision and philosophy and are confident we can continue to build on our team.”

Consecutive Playoff Berths And A Hot Start

Green, 55, has led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of his first two seasons behind the bench. Last Thursday he earned his 95th win as Senators coach, moving into a tie for fifth on the franchise’s all-time coaching wins list, according to the team.

Ottawa is 6-3-0 through nine games this season despite trading former captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers on June 21. The Senators host the Panthers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Staff Stability Beyond The Bench Boss

Extending Baumgartner, Sexton, Yeo and Peters keeps Green’s coaching group intact as the club tries to build on back-to-back postseason appearances.

The Castlegar, B.C., native was named Ottawa’s 14th head coach on May 7, 2024, and has now received a commitment that stretches well beyond the original four-year term that was set to expire after 2027-28.
