‘Earrings’ singer Malcolm Todd packs a Vancouver arena with legit talent

Bruno Mars wasn’t the hottest concert ticket in Vancouver on Sunday (Oct. 18) because, well, it was a night off during his record five-show run in the city’s biggest stadium.
Instead, fellow American Malcolm Todd was the guy packing an arena, located six kilometres east of BC Place.
The PNE Forum is where 3,900 fans of Todd’s genre-blending mix of sweet R&B and “bedroom” pop gathered to see and hear the man perform months after the June release of his Do That Again album.
Judging by Sunday’s packed show and reverential fan reaction, Todd will one day climb the ladder to play a much larger venue here.
Tickets had vanished the second they dropped last spring, leaving desperate fans hunting for passes on a warm mid-October night, right up until show time at the East Van arena.
Concert-opener 54 Ultra set the tone with a high-octane set that turned the floor into a sweaty pit.
By the time Todd walked on stage, the room was a pressure-cooker, and the L.A. native instantly backed up the hype. Todd isn’t just an internet phenom hiding behind backing tracks, he’s a legit multi-instrumentalist, fingering guitar, bass and keys with little effort but big results.
Soon enough, when the heavy bass of “Roommates” and “Bleed” dropped, the Forum was bouncing.
Catching an artist with this kind of momentum in a room this compact feels like getting away with robbery. Three years ago, before he introduced himself with his 2024 mixtape Sweet Boy, Todd had never played a show. Today, he’s moved more than 100,000 tickets across three continents.
Next time in Vancouver, scoop ’em quick when they go on sale.
