Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish (right) and former mayor Bonnie Crombie engaged in a social media war of words on Thursday.

An original INSAUGA Canada head-to-head poll, released less than a week before the Oct. 26 municipal elections, shows incumbent mayor Carolyn Parrish ahead of rival and former mayor Bonnie Crombie among readers who weighed in.

The poll asked readers “who has your vote for Mississauga mayor?”

Over 1,600 votes were cast in the online poll, with 983 respondents (or 59.9 per cent), choosing Parrish, compared with 658 votes (40.1 per cent) for Crombie.

A total of 1,641 votes were cast.

The poll was published at 9:21 a.m. on Oct. 20 and closed on Oct. 21 at 3 p.m.

The poll was specifically a head-to-head question between Parrish and Crombie and did not include the other candidates running for mayor.

Mississauga’s official candidate list includes 14 people seeking the mayor’s chair in the Oct. 26 municipal election.

Parrish is seeking her first full four-year term as mayor after winning Mississauga’s 2024 mayoral by-election, which was held after Crombie left the mayor’s office to lead the Ontario Liberal Party.

Parrish was elected mayor on June 10, 2024, and officially took her oath of office on June 24 to serve the remaining two years of the 2022-2026 council term.

Before becoming mayor, Parrish served on Mississauga city council and spent 13 years in federal politics. She also served as a Peel school board trustee and later as board chair. Before entering politics, she worked as a teacher.

Crombie was first elected mayor of Mississauga in 2014, beating out rival Steve Mahoney after securing an endorsement from late Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion. She went on to win three consecutive mayoral elections before leaving the job to lead the Ontario Liberals.

Before becoming mayor, Crombie represented Ward 5 on Mississauga city council and previously served as the Liberal MP for Mississauga-Streetsville.

Crombie became leader of the Ontario Liberal Party in 2023 and led the party into the 2025 provincial election. While the Liberals regained official party status in that election, the party lost to Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives and Crombie did not win a seat in Mississauga East-Cooksville. She later stepped down as party leader and returned to Mississauga politics to run for mayor again in 2026.

The election creates an unusual political matchup for Mississauga, with the city’s current mayor and its previous mayor both seeking the top job.

Mississauga voters head to the polls on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
