The Canadian and Ontario governments have partnered to spend nearly $9 billion to support the province’s workers and companies in sectors hard-hit by United States tariffs, including the steel and auto industries, and support infrastructure projects in the Ring of Fire.
The partnership was announced Wednesday at a joint news conference by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Doug Ford, and is divided into several pockets.
Nearly $5.5 billion, $1.67 billion of which comes from the province, will be spent over five years to help the steel sector, including diversification efforts and access to new markets.
