Provincial partnership, tiny homes, managed encampments
The three mayoral candidates are asked what they would do to address the problem of homelessness in Winnipeg.
Gillingham says he would continue to partner with the province on the Your Way Home strategy, which has moved 260 people from encampments to housing. The city needs to partner with the province more for mental health, health, addictions, employment and income insurance, he says.
Vogiatzakis says he would bring homeless people into a warehouse with 100-200 tiny homes inside, based on a Minnesota model, and incorporate detox to help address addictions.
Klein says he would bring in a managed encampment for the homeless to get access to a variety of services.
