LETTER: This White Rock-South Surrey intersection is a safety hazard
Published 7:00 am Thursday, October 22, 2026
Editor,
Spidey senses are required when driving in and around the main intersection of 152nd Street and 16th Avenue (Johnston Road and North Bluff Road) in White Rock/South Surrey.
This intersection has regularly become increasingly dangerous due to frequent traffic violations and reckless behaviour.
Weekly, I witness numerous hazardous incidents, including: drivers running red lights; vehicles failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks; unsafe, illegal U-turns and left turns directly in front of oncoming traffic; drivers failing to signal or improperly navigating four-way stops; pedestrians crossing while distracted by their phones; E-scooters traveling at excessive speeds.
Given the high volume of near-misses and the large senior population in this area, I would sure like to see measures taken to improve safety at this intersection, i.e. increased enforcement, improved signage, or a review of the traffic light timing.
