More than 200,000 students in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and parts of Dufferin County will get another three-day weekend, with a scheduled day off school on Monday, Oct. 26.

The day off is a professional activity (PA) day, giving teachers time for professional development while students stay home. The Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board have coordinated their calendars so that elementary and secondary students will be off on the same day.

The PA day also falls on Ontario’s municipal election day, meaning students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

It’s the second consecutive weekend that students have enjoyed three days off, following the Thanksgiving long weekend earlier this month.

The Oct. 26 break is part of the regular school calendar, with several more holidays, PA days and school breaks scheduled between now and the end of the 2026-27 school year.

Families can expect several more opportunities for students to take a break from the classroom over the coming months. The following dates apply to Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board schools, although some PA days differ between elementary and secondary students.
