PHILADELPHIA – A furious comeback attempt by the Saint Joseph’s women’s soccer team came up just shy as the Hawks were upended, 2-1 by St. Bonaventure on Thursday night.
The Bonnies got on the board first in the 14th with an own goal against the Hawks. SBU added another as coming off a turnover, St. Bonaventure fired a rocket from distance to increase the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd.
St. Joe’s was able to cut the deficit when Chelsea Leal struck direct on a free kick from just outside the box. With less than two minutes remaining, SJU had another chance as a free kick from the left side was placed into the mixer, but the ensuing header went off the crossbar.
Saint Joseph’s returns to action on Sunday, closing out its home regular season schedule against Dayton. Kickoff from Sweeney Field is slated for 1:00 p.m.
