Police in Mississauga and Brampton are suspending a partnership with Crime Stoppers following a massive data breach of the tip line system.

Back in March, the “P3” tip software owned by Navigate360 and used by Crime Stoppers was hacked. Some 1.5 million tips submitted to Canadian Crime Stoppers programs over the last 25 years were exposed in a data breach, according to reports.

Peel Regional Police said on Thursday that it has “suspended” its partnership with Crime Stoppers amid news of the breach and “will not resume participation in the program until we are fully satisfied that the platform is secure.”

“The safety and security of Peel residents who have used the Crime Stoppers program is our primary concern. We have requested information from the third-party vendor, Navigate360, to assess any potential risks arising from this breach,” Peel police said in a release.

The move by Peel police follows similar steps taken by the Toronto Police Service and the Durham Regional Police Service.

A total of 176,859 Toronto tips from January 2022 to November 2025 were in the stolen data, including some 14,973 names. Toronto Crime Stoppers said it is unclear whether those names belong to people who submitted tips, to people named in tips, or both.

Peel police say members of the public who wish to provide information about a crime or public safety concern are encouraged to contact officers directly.

“While this does not provide the anonymity associated with the Crime Stoppers program, it will ensure information is received directly by investigators,” Peel police said.

Anyone with information about ongoing incidents can contact Peel Regional Police by calling the non-emergency line at 905-453-3311.
