A trio of fall exhibits can be found at the Museum of Surrey.
Two of three are already open at the Cloverdale museum and one is set to welcome visitors in November.
Open now, “Where are the Children? Healing the Legacy of Residential Schools” is showing in the Indigenous Hall Gallery. “Awakening the Boundless: The Inner Architecture of the Self” is showing in the Community Treasures Gallery.
“The Many Layers of Hair” is scheduled to open at the beginning of November.
INDIGENOUS HALL
“Where are the Children? Healing the Legacy of Residential Schools” opened Aug. 18 and runs until Dec. 19.
“This Legacy of Hope Foundation exhibition uses archival photographs and documents to tell the story of the 125-year history of the Residential School System,” notes information from the City of Surrey. “Photographs, text panels and artifacts move the witness through the process of leaving home and arriving at school, to school activities and being part of a classroom.”
COMMUNITY TREASURES
“Awakening the Boundless: The Inner Architecture of the Self” is an art exhibition that opened Aug. 4 and also runs until Dec. 19.
According to information from the City of Surrey, the art exhibition “invites visitors to explore the world inside themselves.”
Surrey artist Haisha Shahalimi uses mixed materials and lighting “to bring ideas of humanity and the universe into everyday life.”
Haisha is a new artist who explores “the possibilities that exist within all of us.”
FEATURE HALL
Pushed back from a previously scheduled opening date of Oct. 15, “The Many Layers of Hair” is now set to open Nov. 3 and run until April 25, 2027.
“Explore the relationship between hair and identity—untangling a long history of tradition, social acceptance, discrimination, resistance, and self-expression,” notes information about the show found on surrey.ca.
The exhibit is being billed as “interactive” and it will showcase “historic and intercultural stories to help visitors connect with each other through the shared yet diverse human experience of hair.”
Entrance to the museum is free. To find out more info, call the museum at 604-592-6956, email museum@surrey.ca, or visit surrey.ca/museum.
