A major home improvement store in Brampton is preparing to close permanently, with a clearance sale underway and the future of its property uncertain.
RONA+ at 370 Kennedy Road South is scheduled to close on Dec. 27, ending a retail operation that began nearly two decades ago when the location opened as a Lowe’s.
The 13.47-acre site is already being marketed for sale, raising questions about what could eventually take its place. According to a listing by commercial real estate firm JLL, the location includes a 142,338-square-foot store, a separate 31,686-square-foot garden centre and 761 parking spaces.
No buyer or replacement tenant has been publicly confirmed, and there has been no announcement of a specific redevelopment plan. The property is located near Steeles Avenue East and Highway 410, in an established commercial area that includes major retailers such as Walmart, Home Depot, Costco and Nations Fresh Foods.
The closure will leave RONA+ with one remaining location in Brampton, at 10111 Heart Lake Road. The company has not publicly provided a specific reason for its decision to close the south Brampton store, and it remains unclear whether the move is part of a broader corporate strategy. No word yet on the future of those who work at the store.
The closure comes after another RONA store in Brampton shut down in January 2024. The location at 50 Gillingham Drive closed permanently, while the former Lowe’s stores on Kennedy Road South and Heart Lake Road were converted to the RONA+ banner in December 2023.
However, the latest closure does not appear to be part of a confirmed nationwide shutdown. RONA continues to operate hundreds of corporate and affiliated stores across Canada and has pursued expansion in some markets. In July 2026, the company announced the acquisition of five stores and a direct delivery centre in Atlantic Canada, indicating that its broader retail strategy includes investment as well as changes to its store network.
The Kennedy Road South location has undergone significant changes during its history. It opened as a Lowe’s in 2007, during the American home improvement chain’s expansion into Canada. Lowe’s acquired Canadian retailer RONA in 2016 in a deal worth approximately $3.2 billion, before selling its Canadian operations to private equity firm Sycamore Partners in 2023.
Following the sale, the company moved to establish RONA+ as its large-format home improvement banner, converting former Lowe’s stores to the new branding. The Brampton South location was among those rebranded in December 2023.
