Model number I2606 finally has a name. On October 22, the phone surfaced in Indonesia’s TKDN certification database as the iQOO 16R, the first listing to attach that name to the code. For anyone new to iQOO: it’s Vivo’s performance-focused brand, and its “R” phones are the cheaper versions of its flagships, sold mainly in India and other markets outside China. Here’s what the iQOO 16R listing confirms, which Chinese phone it’s probably based on, and what that means for its price and launch date.

What the TKDN Listing Actually Confirms

TKDN stands for Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri, Indonesia’s local-content certification. Phones need it before they can go on sale in the country, because Indonesia requires a minimum share of locally made or locally developed parts.

iQOO 16R TKDN Listing

The listing confirms three things:

The marketing name: iQOO 16RThe model number: I26065G support

That’s it. TKDN listings rarely include specs like screen size or battery. But a TKDN certificate is still meaningful, because it tends to arrive when a phone is getting closer to sale, not in early prototyping.

It also hints that the 16R will reach more markets than India. Indonesia is a big market for Vivo, and iQOO phones don’t always launch there.

I2606’s Paper Trail So Far

The model number has been moving through regulators for over two months. Here’s the timeline we’ve pieced together:

The EEC listing covers Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. The IMEI database entry showed up alongside other upcoming Vivo and iQOO models, including the iQOO Z12 Lite (I2603).

None of these databases list specs. So to guess what the 16R will be, we have to look at the leaks.

Two Theories, One Name

Theory 1: The 16R is a rebadged iQOO Neo 12. On October 20, tipster Debayan Roy claimed on X that the iQOO Neo 12, which launches in China on October 28, could arrive in India as the iQOO 16R, with a different camera setup. That would mean a 2K 185Hz screen, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a built-in cooling fan, and a 9,000mAh battery.

Theory 2: The 16R is the global iQOO Z12 Turbo. Days earlier, tipster DCS posted on Weibo that the upcoming iQOO Z12 Turbo has a 6.59-inch screen with an “ultra-high” refresh rate and a chip that will be called either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro. We expect it to become the 16R cause last year’s Z11 Turbo was sold outside China as the iQOO 15R.

On the evidence so far, we lean toward the Z12 Turbo. Here’s why.

The screen size matches. The current iQOO 15R uses a 6.59-inch display. The rumored Z12 Turbo uses the same 6.59 inches. The Neo 12 is a bigger, 2K phone. Brands usually keep a series’ size consistent between generations. The precedent is clean. Z11 Turbo in China became the 15R abroad. Repeating that pattern is the simplest path. The price ladder. The 15R sells for $568 in India. Estimates circulating in Indian tech media put a Neo 12-based phone at $737– $789. A 30%-plus jump would push the “R” model close to flagship pricing and squeeze the iQOO 16 above it.

iQOO 16R is iQOO Neo 12 or iQOO Z12 Turbo

That said, this is our analysis, not a confirmation. The Neo 12 theory is newer, and iQOO hasn’t commented on either. It’s also possible iQOO launches both phones in India under different names.

What the iQOO 16R Could Bring

If the Z12 Turbo theory holds, here’s how the 16R might compare with the phone it replaces.

Two notes on that table. First, Qualcomm’s naming is confusing, so here’s the short version: the Snapdragon 8 Elite chips are its top tier, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen chips sit one step below. The 16R’s chip would be a step below flagship, but newer than what the 15R uses.

Second, the battery number comes from a tipster’s July claim that iQOO’s next performance phones were being tested with cells of up to about 10,000mAh. If the 16R ships with that, it would be 32% more than the 15R’s 7,600mAh. Testing isn’t shipping, though, so treat that as the upper end of the range.

iQOO 16R Specs

The cooling fan is the wildcard. Fans are spreading fast in gaming phones as chips run hotter, and iQOO is reportedly evaluating one for the Z12 Turbo. A fan in a phone at this price would be unusual outside China.

When Will the iQOO 16R Launch?

iQOO hasn’t announced a date. But its 2026 schedule offers a strong clue:

January 2026: iQOO Z11 Turbo launches in ChinaFebruary 24, 2026: iQOO 15R launches in India

If iQOO repeats that pattern, the Z12 Turbo would arrive in China around January 2027, with the 16R following in February or March 2027. A TKDN listing in October fits that timeline: certifications often come months before a launch, especially with Chinese New Year falling in the middle of the window.

If the Neo 12 theory turns out to be correct, the timeline could be faster, since the Neo 12 launches in China on October 28.

What This Means for YouYou’re shopping in India right now: The iQOO 15R at ₹53,999 is a known quantity with a 7,600mAh battery and 100W charging. If you need a phone this month, the 16R is too far away to wait for.You can wait until early 2027: Waiting likely gets you a bigger battery and a newer chip. But memory prices have pushed nearly every brand higher this year, so the 16R may cost more than ₹53,999.You’re in Indonesia: The TKDN listing is the best sign yet that the 16R is coming to you, not just to India. You want the Neo 12’s fan and 2K screen today: Importing a Chinese Neo 12 is possible, but you’ll get a China-focused software build and no local warranty.

We’ll know which theory is right once the Z12 Turbo’s specs leak in full, or once iQOO starts teasing the 16R itself. Until then, I2606 is a name with a missing spec sheet.

FAQsWhat’s the difference between iQOO and Vivo?

iQOO started as a Vivo sub-brand focused on gaming and performance, and both phones come from the same parent company. iQOO models often share parts with Vivo ones.

Does iQOO sell phones in the US or Europe?

Not officially in the US. iQOO focuses on China, India, and parts of Southeast Asia, while Vivo covers some European markets.

What does an “R” model usually mean?

It usually marks a cheaper phone that borrows the flagship’s name with a lower-tier chip or camera.

Are cooling fans in phones actually useful?

They help in long gaming sessions, when chips get hot and slow down. The trade-off is a moving part and a vent.

Is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 much faster than the 8 Gen 5?

Yes, noticeably. The Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s top chip, while the 8 Gen 5 sits a step below and costs phone makers less.
