The Calgary Stampede has crowned next year’s First Nations royalty.
Chondra Fox, a 23-year-old jingle dress dancer from the Kainai Nation, was crowned 2027 First Nations Princess on Sunday.
She was selected from a pool of four candidates, who took part in a competition demonstrating their cultural knowledge, traditional dance, public speaking and interview skills.
“It doesn’t feel real yet,” Fox said in a statement. “This was a really joyful moment for me.”
Fox — whose Blackfoot name is Naamitapiaakii, which means Lone Woman — is the sixth Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess to hail from the Kainai Nation.
“I’m looking forward to connecting with people, building relationships and learning more about my culture, and then being able to represent that knowledge and be a role model to young girls,” Fox said.
“I’m really excited to be a part of the community and to be able to give back to my community in this role.”

Meet the 2026 Calgary Stampede’s First Nations Princess
Raegan First Rider says she has deep roots at the Calgary Stampede. Her grandfather was a chuckwagon racer and her grandmother was a Teepee Holder. Now, First Rider is the 2026 Stampede’s First Nations Princess.
Amelia Crowshoe, incoming chair of the First Nations Princess Subcommittee, welcomed Fox to the Calgary Stampede family.
“The First Nations Princess program is about more than wearing a crown and working a crowd of thousands,” said Crowshoe, who was the 2012 First Nations Princess.
“It is about cultural values, community leadership, connecting to people from all walks of life and sharing who we are as First Nations women.”
Fox’s reign as 2027 First Nations Princess will run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. She’ll serve alongside the 2027 Calgary Stampede Princess, set to be crowned Friday.
