Police are searching for a suspect after a transit rider was assaulted by a stranger on a Brampton bus.
The assault happened around 5:15 p.m. on May 25 on a Brampton Transit bus in the area of Rutherford Road and Steeles Avenue in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.
The suspect and victim were both passengers on the bus when the suspect allegedly attacked the victim without provocation, investigators say.
The suspect struck the victim numerous times during the attack. The male suspect also knocked the victim’s glasses off their face, and smacked a phone out of their hand.
Police say the victim suffered serious injuries to their face and head.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The suspect is described as a male approximately 5’10” tall and weighing 170 lbs.. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, a black bandana around his neck, a yellow and navy jacket, blue jeans, dark-coloured shoes, and a red, yellow, and blue backpack.
The suspect fled the area on a bicycle with red pedals, a red-and-black seat, and a blue-and-red frame. He was last seen travelling eastbound on Steeles Avenue.
Police have released images of the suspect, and anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators with 21 Division CIB at 905-453-2121 ext. 2133.
Police are also asking for the public’s assistance after sexual assaults were reported on Brampton Transit Züm buses. The alleged sexual assaults involving two victims, including one youth, were reported between Oct. 1 and 15 on the Züm buses, Peel Regional Police say.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents, or who may have had contact with the suspect, is asked to contact investigators with the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121 ext. 3460.
