Growing Halloween walk-thru a Lambert family creation in Birdland area, Surrey

Surrey’s Birdland neighbourhood is home to a Halloween walk-thru that seems to get bigger and more popular every year.
For close to two decades the Lambert family has built their haunted house annually at 11082 Jay Crescent, near Hummingbird Park in Guildford.
It’s free for all to experience on Halloween night from 4:30 to 10 p.m., no donations sought.
Darrin and Jenny Lambert build and operate the haunt with help from their kids.
“My husband also works full-time, very long hours,” Jenny added. “Once the structure is built, our two daughters, friends and I help with the decorating, building props, etc.”
Last year, people lined up down the street to see and walk through Lambert Haunted House.
“It’s very popular in our neighbourhood,” Jenny said. “We actually had to close the street off just to protect people from the cars and everything, probably over a thousand people here. Halloween is Saturday this year so we’ll probably get even more people. We have a great neighbourhood. They all support us, which is great.”
The structure, close to 2,500 square feet, has ramps, hallways and hidden rooms, Jenny explained. “There are live actors in there, too, which is my oldest daughter, she’s 18, and her friends.”
Darrin starts building on Labour Day weekend and doesn’t stop until October, she said.
“People think we’re a little crazy,” Jenny added with a laugh. “He (Darrin) keeps the wood year after year, so he can just keep building it. My husband just loves doing it. It’s like his little baby.”
