Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright remains on the trade block as he continues to eye a fresh start and the team seeks scoring help to boost their offence.

The 22-year-old centre has three goals and one assist in 12 games with Seattle this season. Selected fourth overall by the Kraken in the 2002 draft, Wright has long struggled to find a place with the team.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports the Kraken are open to trading one of their young centres, but have a specific ask in trade talks.

“They have a need, and that’s trying to add some offence, add more scoring,” Dreger explained on Insider Trading Tuesday. “They’ve been looking for a top-line winger for quite some time.

“It’s no secret that they’ll trade away one of their young centres.

“Shane Wright’s name has been out there for several months and is still out there, there’s no doubt about that, his camp has been trying to find a move dating back to last January.

“Seattle is willing to move a centreman but they need a top-line winger in return, so the hunt for Jason Botterill and the Kraken continues.”

The Kraken are off to a promising 7-4-1 start as they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to town on Wednesday. Seattle, however, has a goal differential just plus-3, having outscored opponents 45-42 on the early season.

Wright found a full-time role with the Kraken in 2024-25, posting 19 goals and 44 points in 79 games, but his production has sagged since. He had 12 goals and 27 points in 74 games last season.

Wright is in the midst of a contract year as he plays out the final season of his entry-level deal and is scheduled for restricted free agency in July.

Seattle has plenty cap space to make a move – this season and beyond – with $16.2 million currently, per PuckPedia. The franchise also has $50.7 million in projected space for next season with 16 players already under contract.

The Kraken attempted to make a major move in the off-season, offering an eight-year deal worth roughly $15 million to Jason Robertson in a potential sign-and-trade with the Dallas Stars but were turned away by the winger.
