A black bear seen wandering through parts of Kanata Thursday was tranquillized and transported to a safer location, Ottawa police say.

“It seems our adventurous friend was doing a little exploring before settling in for a long winter’s nap,” Ottawa Police Service said in a social media post Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, police warned residents that a bear was spotted in the Morgan’s Grant Woods Park area. It was also reported in the backyard of a nearby residence.

They later said there was a sighting in the Kanata North area, near Klondike and March Roads.

Police have asked those in the area to consider removing any bird feeders or other food sources from yards to avoid attracting other unwanted animals.
