Police have charged a Brampton dump truck driver after a traffic agent was killed on the job in Toronto this week.

The fatal crash happened on Thursday around 9 a.m. at Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard, the Toronto Police Service says.

A City of Toronto traffic agent was at the intersection directing traffic when police say a blue Kenworth dump truck was headed south on Millwood and made a left-hand turn eastbound onto Overlea Boulevard.

That’s when the driver of the truck struck the traffic agent, who was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts at life-saving measures, police say.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene, and police now say the 33-year-old male suspect from Brampton has been charged with careless driving causing death.

Police have not released the name of the accused, who is scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on Jan. 28.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1900.
