The Cloverdale Legion will once again host the city’s main Remembrance Day service. Always held in Veterans’ Square, it’ll start at 10 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Will Hanks, sergeant-at-arms for Cloverdale’s Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 6, said the general public is in invited back to the Legion after the ceremony. He added that one need not be a member to come to the Legion on Remembrance Day.

With their capacity at 500, Hanks thinks more than a thousand people will be in and out of the Legion after the ceremony and over the course of the day. He said they have a full slate of entertainment booked for the afternoon and evening.

Before the entertainment begins, they’ll be a parade back to the legion led by the colour party.

As sergeant-at-arms, Hanks will lead the colour party (they carry the flags, lead the parade, and march in and out first). This is his first Remembrance Day as sergeant-at-arms and the first time he’ll be leading the colour party.

“There should be several hundred in the parade,” Hanks noted. “We’ll march back to the Legion from the cenotaph.”

Hanks said they’ll have a Canadian jeep from the Korean War and a Second World War army truck at the Legion again.

He noted there may be another army truck or two, but that will be confirmed closer to the actual ceremony after he speaks with the folks at the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum.

“We’re also going to have the SPS pipes and drums band perform in the Legion,” Hanks added. He’s still firming up the time, but he thinks just before 1 p.m.
