Emergency work to stabilise the railway near Godstone caused a section of the railway to close for 5 days.

Network Rail had to close the line linking Surrey and Kent due to ground movement being detected.

The closure was between the 28th of October and 2nd November and meant that services between Redhill and Tonbridge were disrupted.

Passengers have been thanked for their patience, and the line has now reopened, with trains having resumed.

Engineers installed 208 sheet piles along a 126 metre embankment in order to strengthen it before a landslip could occur.

Additional maintenance was also completed during the closure to remove some speed restrictions on the line.

“I’d like to thank passengers, and the local community, for their patience and understanding while we carried out these essential repairs to the railway. Engineers worked day and night to carry out these vital repairs and prevent a longer closure.”
