The family of James Turnquest Jr. is raising funds to assist in the recovery of his injuries.

A Brampton music artist and father of two is facing a difficult recovery after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Toronto, leaving him with multiple serious injuries, including a brain injury and 17 broken ribs.

James Turnquest Jr., known to friends and fans as Jah Quest or TJ, was hit in the early morning hours of Oct. 1 while visiting a family member in Toronto.

The artist suffered numerous life-threatening injuries and was placed in a coma. According to a GoFundMe campaign organized by his sister, Tiffany Hanna, Turnquest regained consciousness 10 days after the collision.

His injuries include 17 broken ribs, a brain injury, fractures and other internal injuries. He is also experiencing speech delays and vision impairment.

Turnquest remains hospitalized as he undergoes ongoing medical testing, including MRIs, and continues to receive treatment.

Hanna and her mother have launched the fundraiser to help cover his medical expenses and support his recovery.

In the fundraising appeal, Hanna describes her brother as a happy, gentle person loved by his family, friends, and community. She also highlights his passion for music, describing him as a talented vocalist with a powerful voice.

She said Turnquest is passionate about singing and performing, and his family hopes he can fully recover and regain his quality of life.

“We are praying for his quality of life to return better than before,” Hanna wrote in the appeal.

The family is seeking to raise $55,000 through the GoFundMe campaign, which had collected $555 from seven donations as of Nov. 2.

Hanna acknowledged that many people are facing financial challenges of their own, adding that those unable to contribute can still help by sharing the fundraising page.

The family is asking for support as Turnquest continues his recovery in hospital.

Those wishing to help can find the fundraiser online under the title “Help Jah Quest (James) after Tragic Accident” at GoFundMe.
