Repairs are underway after over 150 homes and businesses, including at least one day care, are without water on Monday.
The Region of Peel’s water outage map shows two emergency service disruptions in the Brampton area on Monday afternoon.
The first was reported on Sunday in the Humber Lea Road area of Caledon, and drivers may encounter traffic changes, while no customers have reported service disruptions.
The second emergency repair started around 8 a.m. on Monday on Mansfield Street in Brampton, and some 152 customers are being impacted. Peel Public Works says one of the customers in a daycare
It could take at least 10 hours for service to be restored, Peel Public Works says.
Over the spring and summer, ongoing road and watermain work led to weeks of closures and lane reductions in Brampton. The water infrastructure across the region is being upgraded to meet the expected population growth.
Under the region’s Flow Program, Brampton and Caledon are getting new watermains and reservoir upgrades, along with road widening and noise wall replacements.
The work is all part of capital investments “aimed at delivering the necessary infrastructure needed to build 1.5 million new homes in Ontario over the next decade,” including 113,000 homes in Brampton and 13,000 homes in Caledon, the region says.
Most of the projects are planned for Brampton, using advanced technologies and alternative methods for flexibility, agility, and efficient resource and budget allocation in the construction process.
