With infrastructure to replace, traffic and safety concerns to address, and a need to attract new businesses, the revitalization of Westminster Ave. is top of mind in Montreal West.
While talks of improvements to the main artery have spanned years, Mayor Jonathan Cha, who has a background in urban planning and was elected last year, said he’s committed to the project and hopes to have a clear vision for it in 2026-27.
“It’s a nice commercial street, but it’s not up to date in terms of quality of design, quality of the experience, diversity of merchants,” Cha said in an interview Thursday. “People are expecting a more lively street, a more beautiful street — maybe a stronger identity.”
