Another year, another head coaching job open at Penn State.
Bruce Lipka has stepped down as the head coach of the men’s tennis team, effective immediately, to pursue “a professional opportunity outside of college athletics.” Assistant coach Thoma Wright will serve as the interim head coach.
“We’re grateful for everything Bruce has contributed to Penn State and our men’s tennis program,” Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Pat Kraft said in the release. “We are incredibly appreciative of the time, energy and commitment he has given to our men’s tennis student-athletes.
Lipka joined the Nittany Lions in June 2024, serving as the head coach for two full seasons and amassing a 28-28 record in dual-match competition.
Before arriving at Penn State, Lipka was the Director of Racquets at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. He also mentored many professional tour-level athletes, including a few who won Grand Slams.
The Nittany Lions are set to compete in the ITA Sectional Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia, this weekend, Nov. 5-7.
