Trust between women and Montreal’s police force has sunk to a new low, advocates in Montreal North said Monday, responding to a report that a police officer had destroyed evidence of domestic violence on a woman’s phone.

Last week, Radio-Canada reported allegations that a police officer at Station 39 in Montreal North erased video evidence of domestic violence from a victim’s phone after recognizing the perpetrator.

Following the report, the police department acknowledged an incident took place in 2025.
