Canadian fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
Women’s hockey star Sarah Fillier is expected to play at the world championship despite an injury scare during a pre-tournament game, GM Danièle Sauvageau told CBC Sports on Tuesday.
“Things are looking good, so it’s a question of day by day. It’s on a good track, a positive track,” Sauvageau said.
Fillier left a 4-0 loss to the U.S. on Friday after an awkward crash into the boards, throwing her status for the tournament in doubt.
She had a goal and an assist in Canada’s first exhibition against the Americans, a 5-3 victory.
Fillier, 26, who plays for the New York Sirens in the PWHL, registered 13 goals and 16 assists in 30 games last season.
The world championship runs Nov. 6-16 in Denmark ahead of the PWHL season. Canada is looking to recapture gold after the U.S. won 4-3 in overtime in the championship game last year.
