A driver has been given several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act after a child on school safety patrol duty was hit and injured at a Winnipeg intersection last week.
Officers were sent to the intersection of Sargent Avenue and Dominion Street around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, police said in a news release Wednesday.
A vehicle had hit a light standard and, as part of a “chain of events,” struck the child, who was performing patrol duties at the intersection, the news release said.
The child was taken to hospital in stable condition, but the driver was still at the site of the crash when officers arrived there.
The news release did not state which school the child attends, but Sargent Park School is located at that intersection. It has students from nursery through Grade 8.
Police concluded their investigation Tuesday and issued the driver tickets for driving imprudently, disobeying a traffic control device, failing to give required information to a person injured in an accident and failing to make a police report.
