Mississauga’s Corey J. appears to be one for understatement if his reaction to a big lottery win is any indication.

The Mississauga man, a loyal lottery player with OLG for the past decade, is $100,000 richer after the last six of seven Encore numbers on his Sept. 19 Lotto 6/49 ticket matched in exact order the winning numbers for that draw.

His previous biggest win playing the lottery was $500, he told Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) officials while picking up his cheque.

“I was happy with that one, but this one’s a little more exciting,” Corey said recently, in understated fashion, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his windfall.

Reflecting on the moment he discovered his big win, Corey, who plays Lotto 6/49 twice weekly and always adds Encore, said it was completely unexpected.

“I was definitely surprised. I told my fiancée, and she didn’t believe me at first,” he said.

Now $100,000 wealthier, the Mississauga winner said he has some definite plans for the money.

“I think a vacation is coming up. Maybe a little renovation to the house, too,” he told OLG officials.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada, on Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga.

What should your newly elected mayor focus on during their first 100 days?

Under a relatively new policy, the OLG is no longer revealing the surnames of major lottery winners in its news releases. However, big winners’ full names will still be listed on the OLG’s website.

Encore offers ticketholders 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1.
