Another Sedin is set to make a name for himself in sports, but rather than skates, he’ll be lacing up some cleats.
Valter Sedin, son of Vancouver Canucks legend Henrik Sedin, has been selected to the Canadian men’s U-18 soccer roster for two friendly games taking place in early September, Canada Soccer announced Monday.
The team will travel to Finland for games against the host country on Sept. 5 and against Switzerland on Sept. 7.
Sedin currently plays as a midfielder for Swedish club Hammarby U19 in Stockholm. The club is partly owned by legendary Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He began his soccer career with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy, joining the side in 2020 and progressing through the ranks before debuting with Whitecaps FC 2 in MLS Next Pro — the MLS’s developmental league — in June 2024.
The 18-year-old transferred to Hammarby in February 2025 for an unreported fee.
Born in Vancouver, Sedin has both Swedish and Canadian eligibility and could’ve represented either side.
