ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A well-known Decatur cycling attorney and advocate died following a bike crash.
Ken Rosskopf died following a bike ride in which Decatur police said he was trying to make a turn and collided with a car near Ponce de Leon Place.
Many in the DeKalb County cycling community are mourning the loss of the 85-year-old.
His son, Joey Rosskopf, who is a professional cyclist, described his father as a legend in the community.
“He was always active, huge in the cycling community,” Joey said. “I’ve had childhood friends, cycling friends, I’ve raced for a long time, so former teammates, they’re all reaching out. So it makes you realize how big of an impact he had on everyone’s life.”
Ken was also a cycling attorney alongside his law partner, attorney Bruce Hagen. He knew a lot about bikes and cycling law. His work included advocating for bike safety and helping out the young riders whenever he could.
“That was super important to him,” Joey said. “He influenced a lot of people along the way, fixing neighborhood bikes for all the kids in the neighborhood when they were little kids, bicycle safety and making it accessible for people.”
According to police, the crash happened very close to Ken’s home near Clairmont Avenue, a route he took often.
“He was always out. Loved a coffee day, a bike ride,” Joey said about his father. “The more people on bikes, the better. Always supportive of kids and the community.”
Decatur Police said the incident remains under investigation.
