Leave it to The Young and the Restless’ crafty Colin Atkinson to find one more trick up his sleeve. Though we learned upon Billy Flynn’s introduction as Cane Ashby that his father had died off screen — and, shortly thereafter, portrayer Tristan Rogers passed away in real life — Jill Abbott’s former husband will be making one last appearance on the CBS daytime drama in the Tuesday, Aug. 26, episode (previewed here).

Young & Restless announced the surprise return for Rogers via a social-media post in which Jess Walton paid tribute to the soap legend who was Jill’s love/hate interest for years. (Watch below.)

In the pivotal episode in question, Cane fills in some the (many!) blanks about his years away from Genoa City — and yes, we hear that that telling of his backstory will include scenes taped earlier this summer with Rogers opposite new Cane Flynn, who has succeeded Daniel Goddard (Henry, General Hospital) in the role.

In addition to stirring the pot on Young & Restless, Rogers is, of course, vividly remembered for his star turn as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital. He also made one last appearance on that show earlier this summer, to facilitate the exit of on-screen daughter Sofia Mattsson (Sasha). Here, Steve Burton — Jason on General Hospital and formerly Dylan on Young & Restless — shares details of that momentous tape day.
