He’s not the only wrestler in the new Netflix movie Happy Gilmore 2, but (a) we don’t know much about Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella’s roles yet and (b) based on the trailers Maxwell Jacob Friedman has a bigger part as one of the main character’s children.
MJF is also the one who Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen are gushing about him in an interview Mr. & Mrs. Gilmore did with Chris Van Vliet to promote the movie, out July 25 on the streamer. Van Vliet posted the clip on his Facebook today (July 19), and Max re-posted it on X/Twitter. That’s embedded below.
Van Vliet mentions Lynch as well in his question, so there may be a quote about her in a non-MJF-centric edit of the interview. Here we get their answers about working with the 29-year-old former AEW World champ, and it’s high praise.
Sandler’s initial response is, “Funny as hell.” Bowen chips in a, “So funny”, before her co-star continues, “What a great kid. Love him. Family member.”
His on-screen mom was concerned when young Maxwell left the production to “go have a fight”. Sandler corrects her on the terminology, but incorrectly recollects that MJF’s match was at Madison Square Garden. Either way, he came back bruised but without the chipped tooth Bowen was worried about.
The Punch-Drunk Love and Grown-Ups star then closes things out with:
“That kid is jacked and he’s a stud — I’m happy to say he’s my fake son forever. I love my fake son. I love him in real life”
Check it out:
It won’t help him when he uses that Casino Gauntlet contract to challenge AEW World champ Hangman Page, but his fake dad & mom’s words certainly won’t make it harder for MJF to get his next Hollywood audition.
