Cineplex will be selling $5 movie tickets and popcorn this weekend only.

On Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 (not Labour Day), you can snag $5 general admission and small popcorn at theatres across the country. Note that a $1.50 booking fee is applied to online ticket sales, although it drops to $1 if you’re a Scene+ member or is waived entirely for CineClub subscribers and those who purchase tickets in the cinema.

Cineplex also says you can upgrade your general admission ticket to premium screenings for an additional cost. However, the $5 discounted price isn’t applicable to non-feature films or Cineplex Events screenings.

Cineplex says a portion of proceeds from the discount weekend will go towards the Canadian Picture Pioneers, a non-profit that supports Canada’s motion picture industry.

Showtimes are now available for the weekend — you can check them out on Cineplex’s website. Some of the movies screening this weekend include recent summer hits like Superman, Freakier Friday, The Bad Guys 2, F1, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Weapons and Nobody 2, as well as new releases like the Austin Butler-led Caught Stealing, the Toxic Avenger remake starring Peter Dinklage and The Roses with Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman.

It’s also worth noting that Jaws is getting a special 50th anniversary re-release this week (including in Imax), while China’s Ne Zha 2 (the biggest animated movie of all time) is also hitting theatres with an English dub.
