Repeat Offender Facing New Impaired Driving Charges

A man who has been keeping Holyrood RCMP busy over the last few months is facing more charges – this time for suspected impaired driving.

RCMP were called over the supper hour on Tuesday after a man was found conked out in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck on Main Road in Brigus Junction.

The man showed signs of impairment, but refused to comply with requests for a breath sample. The vehicle was impounded.

Fifty-five-year-old Donald Gillingham has been charged with refusal and failing to comply with a release order. He was also ticketed for driving without a valid licence.

It’s not the first time RCMP have had to deal with Gillingham. Over the last two months he has been arrested three times for impaired driving.

In late July he was arrested after a rear end collision where he again refused to provide breath samples. Earlier that same month, he was charged after reports of an assault in Holyrood where he is accused of driving an ATV while drunk. Following that incident, he was also charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Gillingham also has two previous impaired driving matters before the courts – one dating back to December 2023 and the other in connection with an incident in RNC jurisdiction in January of 2024.

He’s scheduled to be back in court on September 22.
