Gervonta Davis is widely regarded as one of the biggest punchers in all of boxing.
‘Tank’ has knocked out nearly all of the opponents that have stood in his way, becoming a three-weight world champion at super-featherweight, lightweight and super-lightweight in the process.
During that time he has earned stoppage victories over fighters such as Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Mario Barrios and Leo Santa Cruz, with 28 of his 30 victories coming by way of knockout.
The only time ‘Tank’ has failed to win came in his last contest in March, when his WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach ended in a majority decision draw.
It was expected the two men would have an immediate rematch, but instead Davis has opted for a shock match-up against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November, despite Paul being eight inches taller and over 60 pounds heavier than his rival.
Many fans have concerns that Paul may prove to be too big for Davis, but a past gym story may ease those worries, after a sparring partner revealed to ESNews that ‘Tank’ once knocked out a ‘known heavyweight’ – a name they didn’t disclose as to ‘not embarrass’ anyone.
“Man I was about to spar Tank, he was sparring this big boy, a heavyweight boy, ‘Tank’ hit him so hard he was just on the ropes like this, I thought he died.”
Davis was then asked himself whether it was indeed true.
“Sh*t be happening. Best not get in there with me. That’s it.”
It means the power of Davis may well be good enough to trouble bigger rivals, and top analyst Teddy Atlas agrees that ‘Tank’ could have Paul in serious trouble if he lands clean on the chin.
