Let’s be honest, Montreal Canadiens fans haven’t exactly been spoiled with offensive stars in recent years.

The last 40-goal scorer in a season for the Habs was Vincent Damphousse during the 1993-94 campaign.

Since then, only Max Pacioretty came close with 39 goals in 2013-14.

That drought could very well end this season, as Cole Caufield might finally hit that mark. After finding the back of the net 37 times last season, will Cole Caufield be able to reach the 40 goal mark this season?

“I think so.. 40 isn’t a big stretch for him to hit this season”

– Stu Cowan

A stepping stone toward 50 goals for Cole Caufield?

Caufield’s progression over the past few years has been incredible.

As Cowan reminded, he’s gone from 26 to 37 goals in just three seasons.

And let’s not forget that his 26-goal season came in just 46 games.

“Sometimes size doesn’t matter. He finds a way to get it done.”

– Pat Maroon

With Lane Hutson expected to take over the power play quarterback role from the start of the season, and the possible addition of Ivan Demidov to that unit during the year, Caufield’s chances of producing are very high.

Hutson could truly give him a big gift and help him finally surpass 40 goals!

He’s the key-an element that could change everything with his ability to generate scoring chances.

Of course, much will also depend on Patrik Laine‘s usage and effectiveness.

The potential for growth over the next few years is huge.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see him flirting with the 50-goal plateau within two to three seasons.

Just imagine this unit in its prime: Caufield, Hutson, Demidov, Suzuki, and Slafkovsky.

We’re already salivating!
