VICTORIA, Texas – High school football is back, and Week 1 didn’t disappoint. To kick off the season, 25 News Now Sports is rolling out a brand-new segment — the Top 3 Plays of the Week — highlighting the biggest moments from the gridiron across the Crossroads.

Week 1 brought no shortage of highlights, and here are the plays that stood above the rest:

No. 3 – Lavaca River Rivalry
The first score of the season came in one of the most intense rivalries around: Edna vs. Industrial. Cowboys quarterback Trevor Floyd powered his way into the end zone on a keeper, setting the tone with authority. Edna once again looks strong at the QB position, and plays like this showed just how dangerous they can be.

No. 2 – Ganado’s Championship Swagger
The defending state champion Ganado Indians made a statement against Van Vleck, thanks to senior wide receiver Austen Peña. Peña hauled in a deep pass with nothing but open field ahead of him, cruising in for a touchdown. Smooth, effortless, and a reminder of why Ganado is still a team to watch this year.

No. 1 – Tidehaven’s Dual-Threat Leader
The top play of the week came out of Tidehaven’s matchup with Palacios. Senior quarterback Kale Russell showed off his athleticism, marching into the end zone behind solid blocking from his teammates. Russell’s ability to shine as both a passer and a runner makes him one of the most dynamic players in the Crossroads heading into the season.

From game-changing touchdowns to momentum-swinging plays, Week 1 was just the start. Be sure to tune in each week as 25 News Now Sports and reporter Ray Robinson bring you the Top 3 Plays of the Week.
