The upcoming Harry Potter series concluded the second month of filming rather discreetly, with a few announcements and not a lot of official news, apart from the very public filming at Borough Street and King’s Cross Station. However, fortunately for the fans, the photographers managed to navigate the HBO security and get some photos of the cast. Everything seems to be top-notch from whatever little we have got to see and observe of the series. The HBO series will follow the footsteps of the very famous Harry Potter movies, adapting one book per season, and the first two seasons will be filmed back-to-back, so the seasons will be filmed without much of a gap.

Filming at Borough Street

On Sunday, August 17, the cast and crew of Harry Potter were spotted filming near The Blue Maid pub in London. Dominic McLaughlin’s Harry and Nick Frost’s Hagrid were photographed on set.

Both the actors themselves and their scale doubles were present. Nick Frost’s double is the 2.2m (7″2) Anthony Wallyn, who was recognized as Britain’s tallest policeman.

The Blue Maid pub is speculated to stand for the Leaky Cauldron, which is the entrance to the magical Diagon Alley that Harry and Hagrid used. That’s not confirmed yet, but it would make sense.

Filming at King’s Cross Station

On Sunday, August 24, the cast and crew of HBO’s Harry Potter arrived at London’s King’s Cross station to film the scenes happening there in the books. The Weasley family was very well photographed on site thanks to local photographers.

Filming at Springfield Gardens, Upminster

Springfield Gardens in Upminster will stand for Privet Drive, where Harry Potter grew up living with the Dursleys. The location is much more posh than the Privet Drive featured in the movies. Springfield Gardens will feature external shots, while the real filming with the cast will take place in the Privet Drive set in Leavesden Studios. Filming has wrapped on Springfield Gardens in August, where the crew captured drone-style, sweeping footage for scenic shots.

Upcoming filming at King’s Langley farm

The Berrybushes farm in Langbury, situated very close to Leavesden Studios, will host some of the pivotal sets of Season 1. The farm, which has previously been used for other productions like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Fast X, has been leased by the Harry Potter series for 18 months, ending in October 2026.

The sets being constructed there include a thatched cottage and road, an old couple’s home, a sports stand, gardens, a greenhouse, and a stone outbuilding. Despite the 18-month lease, filming at the location will only take place for 24 days.

Upcoming filming at Cadgwith, Cornwall

The Harry Potter series will film at Cadgwith, Cornwall, between October 6-10. The road between Prazegooth Lane and Campion Lane will be closed for filming. The proximity of the road to the beach suggests that the beach may be the location for the filming

In other news, Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter movies, had some interesting observations about the Harry Potter series. Appearing on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Columbus said he was somewhat baffled by the HBO TV series remake.

“So, I’m seeing these photographs … and he’s wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid. Part of me was like: What’s the point? I thought everything was going to be different, but it’s more of the same. It’s all going to be the same.”

“It’s very flattering for me, because I’m like, that’s exactly the Hagrid costume that we designed.” He continued, “So, part of it is really exciting, so I’m excited to see what they’re going to do with it. Part of it is sort of deja vu all over again.”

As HBO continues to announce cast, we expect more announcements in September.

The confirmed cast list is as follows:

Harry Potter series will film until May 2026 and is eyeing a 2027 release. Season 2 will begin filming back-to-back after Season 1 after a short break. Stay tuned to Redanian Intelligence for more news.
