The former World No.22 took out Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann 6-0, 7-5 in a battle of former Top-25 players for her sixth career title at Lasi, Romania, making it her second career title one on home soil – she also won Bucharest in 2017.

34-year-old Begu, ranked 110, hit 23 winners to just nine for Teichmann and saved three of four break points to capture her third clay-court title, and sixth overall. The first set was a breeze, but Begu had to drill down in the second as she rallied from 4-2 down and captured five of the final six games against 102-ranked Teichmann.

Seventh-seeded Begu won three-setters against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the second round and Anna Siskova in the quarterfinals, before defeating compatriot Jaqueline Cristiand and Teichmann in straight sets.

She claims €31,565 in prize money for her efforts, and is up to No.82 in the WTA live rankings.
