The Toronto Raptors’ roster is shaping up for the 2025-26 season, with the preseason a little over a month away. Later this month, the players will return to Toronto ahead of training camp in Calgary.

But a pair of former Raptors — who played for the team as recently as 2023 — are still without an NBA home for this upcoming season.

The duo of Precious Achiuwa and Dalano Banton, both once expected to be part of Toronto’s young core, are now on the free agent market.

How did the two players depart from Toronto?

Each of the duo left in separate ways. Achiuwa went to the New York Knicks as part of a blockbuster five-player deal that also saw Malachi Flynn and OG Anunoby head south in exchange for RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley in December 2023.

Achiuwa fell out of favour in New York this past year, playing just 34 minutes across eight playoff games as the team made an Eastern Conference Final appearance, and thus headed to free agency.

Banton could’ve been a restricted free agent after two years in Toronto, but opted to sign with the Boston Celtics on a two-year deal back in the summer of 2023. After two years of trying to crack the rotation for regular minutes under Nick Nurse, Banton opted to find a new home in a divisional rival.

The Celtics traded him midway through 2024 to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he picked up a career high 16.7 points per game in his 30-game stretch to end the 2023-24 season.

This past season, however, he didn’t have nearly as much of a run in his first year in Portland, as he played just 16.7 minutes per game, averaging 8.3 points per night — nearly double his 3.7 per game in Toronto.

Are there other former Raptors who are free agents?

From our research, it appears that there are six other former Raptors who were active in the NBA last season who don’t yet have a deal for 2025-26, via Spotrac.

If you want to go back a little bit further back past the aforementioned duo, all of Cory Joseph, James Johnson, PJ Tucker, Alex Len, Bismack Biyombo, and Delon Wright remain without contracts for the upcoming season.

Given that Toronto hasn’t circled back for several years on any of the aforementioned players, don’t expect any reunions anytime soon.
