JFX Southbound to Close All Day Saturday for Maryland Cycling Classic Amid Widespread City Road Closures

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is advising residents, visitors and commuters to prepare for widespread road closures and parking restrictions on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as the Maryland Cycling Classic takes over city streets.

With professional men’s and women’s races on a 17.9-mile circuit through Baltimore neighborhoods, plus multiple large-scale events downtown, motorists should anticipate significant congestion and delays throughout the day.

In addition to the cycling races, traffic will be further impacted by the Orioles home games at Camden Yards on Friday and Saturday nights and a sold-out concert at CFG Arena on Saturday evening.

Major Highway Impact: Jones Falls Expressway Closures

Jones Falls Expressway (I-83 South) will be fully closed at Maryland Avenue (Exit 5) from 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on race day.

All southbound traffic will be detoured onto Maryland Avenue during this time.

Citywide Race Route Closures

Beginning at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, roads along the entire 17.9-mile circuit will be closed to vehicular traffic, with full closure by 6:30 a.m. and lasting until approximately 6:00 p.m.

Streets impacted include key corridors in Harbor East, Fell’s Point, Canton, Patterson Park, Mount Vernon, Station North, Charles Village, Hampden, and Roland Park.

Parking restrictions along the route start Friday, September 5 at 8:00 p.m. and continue until Saturday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and relocated.

Downtown Baltimore Closures and Restrictions

East Pratt Street, Market Place, and Point Street will face extended closures beginning Friday, September 5.

Additional closures will be in place near Harbor Point and the Inner Harbor for race set-up, the start/finish lines, and fan areas.

Commercial vehicle restrictions will be enforced downtown from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, with no trucks permitted south of Fayette Street, along Pratt and Lombard Streets, or near the Inner Harbor.

Public Transit Impact:

The Charm City Circulator will operate with delays and reroutes until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

MDOT MTA buses and Mobility service will also be diverted, with temporary pick-up and drop-off adjustments.

Compounding Congestion

Travel Guidance

Motorists are strongly urged to use alternate routes outside the race footprint, including roads north of North Avenue, south of McComas Street, west of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and east of Highland Avenue.

Fans heading to Camden Yards or CFG Arena should use I-395, which will remain open and unaffected by the cycling races.
