Lewis Hamilton faced the media in the FIA press conference, sharing his emotions ahead of his first Italian Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver. “It’s truly something unique. When you come to Monza with another team, you only get a partial sense of what a Scuderia Ferrari HP driver experiences during this weekend,” he said. “Of course, it’s an extremely intense weekend, but the affection you receive from Wednesday onwards, starting with the events in Milan, is incredible. They say Ferrari tifosi can give you an extra boost, and I can confirm that’s absolutely true.”

Lauda. This weekend, the Scuderia celebrates the 50th anniversary of Niki Lauda’s first world title with Ferrari, a milestone carrying special significance for Hamilton, who has always felt a strong bond with the Austrian legend. “I’m glad we can honour Niki this weekend with a special livery and helmet, even though, to me, it always feels as if he’s still here by my side. Sometimes I even feel like I can hear him, because I know exactly what he would say to me in different situations,” Hamilton reflected.

Motivation. Hamilton will also face a five-place grid penalty this weekend, handed down for an infringement before the Dutch Grand Prix. “Obviously, losing so many positions here at Monza is tough, and I can’t help but feel the penalty was harsh. But that’s how it is, and I’ve already moved on: starting from the midfield will make the challenge even more exciting,” he noted. “Over time, I’ve learned to live fully in the present – dwelling on the past doesn’t help, and thinking too much about the future isn’t useful either. This season has been challenging from a sporting perspective, but personally very rewarding: I’ve discovered a new culture, a team I didn’t know before, and they constantly push me to give my best, just as I do with everyone involved. I feel we are laying strong foundations to have better days soon,” he added. Looking ahead to the weekend, Hamilton concluded: “I can’t wait to get on track tomorrow. For a moment, I’ll go back to being a kid, remembering when I used to watch Michael Schumacher drive the Ferrari out of the garage at Monza – only this time, it’ll be me behind the wheel. I’ll do everything I can not to disappoint our fans.”
