Concerns about his health followed him all summer, but heading into training camp, Maple Leafs Captain Auston Matthews shared a major update on his health status.
Beginning in training camp last season, Auston Matthews did his best to play through a nagging injury the entire season and playoffs. Unfortunately, there were multiple instances where he was forced to take significant time off, including mid-November when he visited a specialist in Germany.

During the interview, Cotsonika asked the three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner about his health, to which Matthews gave an answer that will leave Leafs Nation a little less anxious entering the season.
“My health is good,” Matthews said. “I feel a lot better. I think I took really good steps this offseason as far as that goes, and so I’m really happy with that progress and happy with where I’m at.”
It was suspected to be a back injury that limited the former first-overall pick to just 65 games and 78 points (33 goals, 45 assists) in what was an ‘off’ season for him. With his injury issues hopefully behind him, Matthews will be counted on to get back to the level of play that saw him tally 69 goals and 107 points just two seasons ago, as the Leafs begin life without Mitch Marner.
