The WNBA is going to look a little different for the remainder of the 2025 season. Unfortunately, after suffering an injury, Caitlin Clark is sitting out the rest of the season, leaving the Indiana Fever down their star player.
Caitlin has been absent from the court since suffering a right groin injury during a game against the Connecticut Sun on July 15. According to the official Indiana Fever website, during recovery, Caitlin unfortunately suffered another injury—a bone bruise—all of which has made it impossible for her to return to the court before the end of the season.
Caitlin announced the news on her Instagram late Thursday night with a bittersweet message to fans. “I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling,” she wrote in part.
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year continued: “I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.” She went on to thank her fans and teammates, clearly ready to cheer on the Indiana Fever as they “claim our spot in the Playoffs.”
Indiana Fever COO and general manager, Amanda Cox, also released a statement, saying in part, “Caitlin has worked so hard throughout this time, doing everything possible to recover and return to the court but, ultimately, time is not on our side.” Amber continued, saying that the team will continue to work with Caitlin to rehab her injury and “provide her with every resource we have available.”
Meanwhile, fellow WNBA stars showed their support in Caitlin’s Instagram comments. “2026 going to be the best season yet 🥳,” wrote her Indiana Fever teammate Lexie Hull. Competitors, like New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu, also offered support.
She even got a message from NBA legend LeBron James, who offered word of encouragement. “Minor setback for a MAJOR COMEBACK!!,” he wrote. “Rest up, get healthy and be YOU! 🙏🏾🫡👑.”
