John Cena Pays Homage To AEW Star After SmackDown

WWE/AEW

John Cena has paid homage to a current AEW star again, following a moment on the September 5 edition of SmackDown.

With John Cena in the final few months of his retirement tour, the 17-time world champion has started to perform the signature moves of his former rivals in matches, as a way of giving nods to stars he won’t get to share the ring with again.

Cena borrowed moves from a number of stars when challenging for Sami Zayn’s US Championship on SmackDown, notably performing Edge/Adam Copeland’s corner taunt and spear.

The retiring star has paid tribute to Copeland once again, taking to Instagram to share a photo of the Rated-R Superstar, which you can view below.

Edge was one of John Cena’s biggest rivals, with the duo sharing the ring almost 100 times across PLEs, televised WWE matches and house shows.

The duo last faced off on the September 20, 2010 Raw episode, with the duo last sharing the ring in a 10-man tag-team dark match, teaming together after the March 28, 2011 SmackDown episode.

John Cena is set to wrestle his retirement match on the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event special, which is set to emanate from the Capital One Arena in Washington DC.

The real reason why Cena’s last match won’t be taking place in Boston, Massachusetts has been revealed, click here to read more.
