Canton, NY – Ryan Makowski fired a two-under 70 thanks to a blistering run on the back nine as he led the Clarkson University Golf team on day one of the St. Lawrence Fall Invitational, held at the par-72, 6698-yard Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

The Golden Knights’ ‘A’ team leads the tournament at the halfway point at +13 (301), four strokes ahead of the second-place team and pacing the field of 13 squads. Clarkson’s ‘B’ squad shot +45 (333).

Makowski was especially impressive on the back nine of the course, shooting 32 with a birdie on number 13, an eagle on number 14, and then birdies on 15 and 16, helping him finish with a 70 for the day, the top score among the field of 70 golfers.

In the hunt for the lead with Makowski is his classmate Eric Spoth, who fired an even par for the day to place third at the halfway point of the tournament. Spoth knocked in an eagle on the fifth hole and then was two under again on number 11 to go along with a birdie at 15.

Tyler Yacawych closed out the first day tied for 22nd, shooting a 79 with a birdie on 11. Joe Tiderencel had a pair of birdies, one on number-five and then again on 18, scoring a 38 on the back for an 80, tying for 25th. Luke Weisiger had a birdie on the fourth hole, shooting an 82, but had his score dropped from the team score.  

The second squad was led by Vincent Magee, who recorded an 81 to tie for 32nd. Brian Secor shot 82, tying for 37th with his teammate Weisiger. Aaron Walsh and Alex Sweeney each shot 85 for the Knights, tying for 51st, and Jace Dutch saw his score dropped with an 87, tying for 55th. Payne Wood played as an individual and shot 81, picking up a birdie on number 12.
