The Boston Celtics suffered a brutal injury during the NBA Playoffs last season. Jayson Tatum went down with a torn Achilles in the second round against the New York Knicks.
Due to the timing of the injury, the expectation has been that Tatum will be unable to play during the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. However, that expectation has not officially been announced. The Celtics are leaving the door open for him to return.
Whether or not he returns, the goal for Boston is to have Tatum back to full health for the 2026-27 season. Tatum has already been making big strides in his recovery from the Achilles tear.

During an appearance on the “Celtics Talk Podcast,” Walsh gave a Tatum update that will excite the Boston fan base.
“We’ve seen him so often. I’ve seen him from when he messed up his Achilles to now, and it’s a big difference,” Walsh said. “He’s moving around way better. So, he’s progressing well. I’m definitely happy to see him getting back healthy.”
Making a comeback and full recovery from an Achilles injury is one of the most difficult injuries to come back from. Every positive update is great news.
Over the last few years, Tatum has become one of the best players in the NBA. He has a complete all-around offensive game and was able to lead the Celtics to an NBA Finals win just two short years ago. With this new update, excitement will begin rising about a potential return late this season.
Last year with Boston, Tatum played in 72 games. He averaged 26.8 points per game to go along with 8.7 rebounds, six assists, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent from three-point range.

Hopefully, the news coming out about Tatum continues to be positive. So far, there have been no setbacks for the 27-year-old superstar.
Only time will tell, but the Celtics have to be excited about where Tatum is at. It will be interesting to see what kind of progress he has made by the time the 2025-26 NBA season arrives and gets underway.
