An insider believes the Vancouver Canucks will attempt to sign a key bottom-six forward to a contract extension this summer after becoming eligible on July 1st.
The Vancouver Canucks have been very busy over the last four weeks trying to get their roster ready for the 2025-26 season and it looks like the club will be done anytime soon, with the goal of landing a top-six centerman in the weeks ahead.
While Patrik Allvin is continuing to evaluate the team’s options from an external standpoint, it appears they may have their sights set on a contract extension for a very import piece of their bottom-six forward group, which could come before training camp.

On Friday, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali was a guest on The People’s Show on Sportsnet 650 radio where he spoke about a number of topics regarding the team’s offseason thus far and what we could see in the weeks to come.
Dhaliwal went on to add that the Canucks and Kiefer Sherwood’s camp have already held “very preliminary” discussions about an extension, but haven’t gone too far down that route in terms of negotiations just yet.
General Manager Patrik Allvin confirmed earlier this month while making a radio appearance that the club has spoken with the Columbus, Ohio native about a new deal.
“In a recent appearance on Sportsnet 650 (audio link), GM Patrik Allvin indicated that he has had preliminary discussions about a contract extension with Sherwood’s camp.”
Sherwood, 30, signed with the Vancouver Canucks on Canada Day 2024, landing a two-year deal worth $1.5 million annually and after registering a career-high 19 goals and 40 points with the team this past season, he’s likely in line for bump in pay.
How much more could Sherwood get on his next contract, whether that’s in Vancouver or elsewhere, it’s hard to say, but if we were to take a guess, it wouldn’t be much of a shock if it’s in the $2-2.25 million range on a multi-year deal.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Vancouver Canucks proceed on this front and if the two sides will be able to agree to terms on an extension before training camp opens on in mid-September.
